Craig Cipriano has a good analogy for the challenge of transitioning to zero-carbon transport. ‘We’re building a plane and flying it at the same time. In other words, we’re implementing zero-emission technology while this technology is maturing.’
 
Still, it’s a test that Craig is more than up for. After almost 35 years working for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York City, he is now National Director of Zero Emissions Mobility at the engineering company STV. Lauren Riley, Chief Sustainability Officer at United Airlines, admits that aviation is hard to abate. It means ‘we don’t have the solutions at scale commercially available to make a difference right now.’ But that doesn’t mean the situation is hopeless – anything but, in fact. For Lauren, the appeal of a sustainability role in her sector comes down to there being ‘no shortage of solutions,’ in contrast to other hard-to-abate industries, ‘so it’s multi-functional, really dynamic [...] opportunity is everywhere.’ There is plenty of work to do – but Lauren is more than up for the challenge. ‘I’m in a space where I believe I can drive change and I’m proud of that.’

Nuclear medicine is finally having its moment. Radiopharmaceuticals are poised to bring about a sea change in the treatment of cancer – though to make sure innovation in the space remains at the cutting edge, having the right talent is arguably the single most important aspect.
 
It was this topic that led Ken Herrmann and Valentina Ambrosini, from Essen University Hospital and the University of Bologna respectively, to co-author an article for the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. This, in turn, caught the attention of our Senior Oncology R&D Consultant, Matthew Palmer.
